Coal and Water

Description

The beautifully preserved "Coal Tank", designed by Francis Webb back in 1881, pauses for water during a visit to the Great Central Railway at Loughborough Central.

The dainty (by modern standard) 0-6-2 tanks were a mainstay of the LNWR, acting as the power for local passenger and freight trains on branches or suburban trips, or being located at a major center such as Birmingham or Euston to act as 'pilot', moving coaches into position for larger locomotives to take to all corners of the country.

She's very nice. :) I must say I like the GWR more, but the LNWR/LNER are nice railways too.
